When approximately 50 new students in South Texas College of Law Houston’s spring 2019 class gathered for their first day of instruction, they found among their ranks a 17-year-old and a 50-year-old. Spanning a 33-year age difference, the two students will have much to teach one another.
After all, one has had a driver’s license for only a year, and the other has been driving longer than his classmate has been alive.
The pair stood alongside one another in an orientation photograph, proving that it is never too early — or too late — to learn the law.
The spring 2019 class includes a second ambitious teenager who plans to become an attorney shortly after he is legally able to toast his accomplishment.
“At South Texas College of Law Houston, we are committed to diversity in our student body — from age, to gender, to race, and more,” said Don Guter, president and dean of South Texas College of Law Houston, who greeted the new students at orientation. “The 33-year age range in our new spring 2019 class supports our recognition among the ‘Best Law Schools for Diversity’ in the winter 2019 issue of preLaw magazine.”
During orientation, the students received wise advice from the law school’s deans, learned fundamentals of the American legal system and learning strategies for law students, and participated in a mock law school class.
